Be a creative buddy to a child who needs you.

This spring, work one-on-one with your child while creating side-by-side with a group of other creative people from advertising, design and architecture.

Help your child know the joy of creativity and self-expression, and the fun of working closely with a creative person like you.

Spark imagination
Make a fanciful and unique costume together, something your child may have never thought possible. Inspire your child with our huge collection of art supplies, including fur, feathers, fake jewels and all sorts of wild stuff. Plus, create a journal of your experience together - a Buddy Book your child will take home.

Share your career
Bring something that shows your child what you do. Most of the kids have no idea what a creative job in advertising or design is like.

March in our parade
At the end of the program, pose with your child for professional photographers, then celebrate your child's achievement in an exciting parade and performance. Afterwards, join your fellow volunteers at a party in Uptown.

Dates
Six Thursday afternoons, Spring 2010:
April 15, 22, 29
May 6, 13, 20

Time
3:30 – 5:45 pm (Ask your employer for time off for community service. Many are willing.)

(Note: On May 20, we need you to come earlier, at 2PM, for the parade.)

Location
Whittier Park Building, 425 West 26th St., Minneapolis, MN 55405 (corner of 26th and Grand Ave. S.)

If you apply
“Pencil in” the six dates on your calendar. We’ll confirm your registration by the week of
April 5.

Deadline
Applications must be received by Thursday,

  • Volunteer for Art Buddies

We’ll confirm your registration by the week of
    April 5.

    Deadline
Applications must be received by Thursday,
    April 1.

    MARCH 06, 10 | 7:00 - 10:00pm

Bicycles have an anatomy of purpose - form follows function. They are also works of art. Chainduit's new fixtures are an attempt at isolating and prioritizing what is naturally beautiful in the shape and color of bicycles before their original function. Whenever possible they have been created out of whole parts.

  • AIGA After School Special: Advice for Emerging Designers

Building a career is not something that happens overnight. It requires patience and tenacity, and it involves more than raw talent. A career demands an overarching curiosity about the world and how things work, topped off with well-honed people skills. To rise to the top in your profession, you have to have the guts to be self-aware, to know your own strengths while trying to improve upon your weaknesses. And, come to think of it, raw talent doesn’t hurt. The great thing about a career in design is that you can define success in a number of ways. You can strive to be a renowned creative director at a big firm, to create a small boutique studio, or to savor both your profession and parenthood by working out of your home while raising children. This industry isn’t just about savvy insight and fresh aesthetic perspectives; it’s also largely built from flexibility and potential. In the beginning of a career, the transition from school to work is difficult, to put it mildly. The first thing you learn is that there is more to learn. A lot more.

  • Every Recent Graphic Design Grad Should BUY THIS BOOK!

There is a major disconnect between the life of a design student and the transition to being a design professional. To demystify the transition, we share the failures, successes, and surprises during our years in college and progression into the field: the creative process, monetary problems, internships, interviews, mistakes, and personal relationships. We include the work from our first design class to our most current client work, along with side stories and interviews from our mentors, teachers, and peers. This book will serve as the ultimate companion for design students, educators, and anyone breaking into a creative field. .
